APPX EX-ZOO-BERATION 2006
Education, entertainment, and networking all came together the first week of May, as APPX customers and resellers gathered for APPX EX-ZOO-BERATION 2006, the bi-annual conference held in Jacksonville, Florida.
From the "How Do They Do That?" training class in the first half of the week, through the group sessions and breakouts, to the eye-opening APPX Show-&-Tell on Friday morning, there was no shortage of technical knowledge to be gained and ideas to be shared. And most everyone agreed that the Thursday night outing to the Jacksonville Zoo was the highlight of the week. How many opportunities does one really get to feed a giraffe, taste an alligator, or just have a great time en route on an old-style trolley?
Congratulations to all of the presenters at our APPX Show-&-Tell, but especially to those whose inventive creations won the admiration of the audience and the trophies that went with that:
First prize went to Bob Gervais (XG2 Information Systems, Quebec, Canada), for his "Web Enabled APPX for Mobile Users". It was very cool to see his APPX application running on his Palm-powered handheld, with instant data retrieval from his server back in Montreal. Way to go, Bob!
Second prize went to Jim Hammond (Pathfinder Software, Orlando, Florida), for what he termed, "Parametric Subroutinized GUI." Jim's effort to simulate the application of themes to APPX graphical design was very well received.
And third prize was awarded to the team of John Selvage (Selvage Custom Solftware, Louisville, Kentucky) and Jo Anne Capitan (W. M. Berg, Far Rockaway, New York), who showed off some slick APPX integration with fax and e-mail programs.
Conference presentation materials for almost all of the sessions are available through the following links. Below that, you can access photo albums submitted by several of our conference attendees.

Photo Albums
We appreciate those attendees who kept their cameras clicking throughout the conference. Each of the following links will open an index page of photos. You can view the pictures in each album individually, or while viewing a photo, there will be a "slide show" button in the upper right hand corner, that will automatically take you through that entire album.
- Photos by Jacqueline Brankley - Jacqueline comes from Fernlea Flowers, a long-time APPX customer in Delhi, Ontario. She sent us a few pictures taken en route to, and at, the zoo, as well as one of the St. Johns River in downtown Jacksonville, with what she thinks is a manatee (but we think is a channel marker).
- Photos by Jo Anne Capitan - Jo Anne came to the conference from East Rockaway, NY, just outside the Big Apple, where she works for APPX customer W. M. Berg, Inc. Like most everyone else, Jo Anne's camera was most active at the zoo, but she also got a picture of a prize-winning Show-&-Tell presentation, and a shot of the closing luncheon. Thanks, Jo Anne!
- Photos by Lee Davis - Lee is a reseller (WLD Systems) in Duncanville, Texas, near Dallas. He and his wife Gloria provided us with more pictures of our zoo excursion, including that great shot of some of our European guests at the top of this page.
- Photos by Wim Jongejan - Without checking Google Earth, we think that Wim gets the prize for coming the furthest (at worst, tied with Ruud Gimbergh). Wim's company is Jongejan Rosier Weggemans Wisseborn Gerechtsdeurwaarders (which explains why we never gave him a full introduction), located in Harderwijk, The Netherlands. Along with zoo shots, Wim also provided one of our APPX BANG display. Check out the tapir and the capybara.
- Photos by Brandon Michael - Brandon is with Management Data in Birmingham, Alabama, and made good use of his camera throughout the evening at the zoo, starting on the trolley ride there.
- Photos by Elizabeth Perkes - Elizabeth works for Utah State Archives in Salt Lake City, and has done some wonderful work integrating APPX and the Internet. She also does nice work with a camera, as evidenced by the zoo pictures here.
- Photos by Bob Petrie - Bob, from Washington Mills Electro Minerals Corporation, and his wife June came down from Niagara Falls, NY, which explains the opening shot in the slide show. Bob's pictures are of downtown Jacksonville and our excursion to the zoo.
- Photos by Jeff Prentice - Someone had to get pictures of things other than the zoo, at least to prove that some work was accomplished this week! Jeff, a Programmer Analyst with APPX Software, filled that role, with shots of the training class and various conference sessions. The best of the bunch, and where everyone looks happiest, is during the welcome reception on the outside roof deck overlooking the river and downtown Jacksonville.
